Additional Learning Needs at Ysgol Feithrin Rhydaman
“Caring for your child. Sharing in their future”
Our aim is to develop the child to be an independent learner in an environment which encourages self-discipline and self-respect.
We recognise that all children come to school at different stages of development and with various needs. Whilst many factors contribute to the range of difficulties experienced by some children, we believe that much can be done to overcome them by parents/ carers, teachers and various other agencies such as Health Visitors, Speech Therapists, Pre-School settings, Social Workers all working together.
We provide a variety of activities and approaches through our Universal Learning Provisions which is available to all – all our children have access to these rich and meaningful experiences and activities.
We are proud to support all children including those with a wide range of emerging and/ or additional learning needs (ALN). We provide support through One Page Profiles, One Page Profiles Plus and for children with identified ALN, with Individual Development Plans (IDP’s) according to the new ALN system.
Children who meet the criteria for having ALN, thus needing Additional Learning Provisions, will be supported by class teachers, teaching assistants, other adults and their learning environment.
The ALNCo (Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator) works closely with parents/ carers and a wide range of external agencies eg Educational Psychologists, the Early Years Additional Learning Needs Officers from county, Health Visitors, SLTs etc through various meetings – prior to and during the child’s time in school, so that all pertinent information is shared and discussed openly, ensuring that all views are valued and considered when planning and monitoring progress
The ALN aims of the school:
· To ensure that early identification of a pupil’s needs is made, wherever possible.
· To ensure that children with ALN take as full a part as possible in all school activities.
· To adopt a Person Centred Practice approach where the child, parents/ carers, school staff and outside support agencies are involved from the beginning, in planning actions and ways forward to support pupils with ALN.
· To ensure that parents are kept regularly informed of their child’s progress.
· To work in partnership with parents/ carers, children and other agencies e.g. Educational Psychologist, Speech Therapists, Social Workers, Health Visitors etc https://www.carmarthenshire.gov.wales/home/council-services/education-schools/additional-learning-needs/ https://youtu.be/00gHqzWowPg
