Curriculum for Wales

Here at Ysgol Feithrin Ammanford we follow the curriculum for funded non-maintained Nursery settings.

“This curriculum aims to create in children positive tendencies towards learning which, if nurtured, will last a lifetime and provide the solid foundation that all of our children need to support them to realize the four purposes of Curriculum for Wales.”

We will give your children’s education the best start by supporting them on their journey to become:

Ambitious, capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.

Enterprising, creative contributors who are ready to play their full part in their life and work.

Principled, informed citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world.

Healthy, confident individuals who are ready to live fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

The 5 Developmental Pathways

Central to the curriculum are the five key developmental pathways which are essential to the learning and development of all young children.
They focus on what is important to the child, and relate closely to the key principles of child development:

– Belonging

– Communication

– Exploration

– Physical development

– Wellbeing

Literacy, numeracy and digital competence are compulsory skills in all parts of the whole curriculum.

Each path has a clear logic that conveys the essence of what children need to develop at their own pace in a way that is appropriate for them. The skills are child-centred and use statements that reflect positively on the children and acknowledge their progress, such as

“I need…”

“I’m learning how to…”.

“My … is enriched by …”

All our planning focuses on the child’s voice, the child’s interests and hobbies, outdoor learning and physical literacy. Together with adults who enable learning and an effective environment, we will ensure that the children are well equipped to develop their skills at the start of their educational journey here at Ysgol Feithrin Rhydaman.
